![]() The two characters I connected with the most were Alise and Thymara. ![]() The prose was just phenomenal, as expected I think just about anything would be worth reading if written so beautifully. If I had to sum up the entire book, I would say that it was fascinating and well-written, but not particularly emotionally engaging. They were interesting and nuanced as usual, but there wasn't anyone I was rooting for in the same way I root for Fitz. This was such a contrast to Tawny Man that it really took me by surprise. My main complaint with this book was that I didn't really connect with the characters. I thought Liveship Traders was brilliant in a very different way to the other two trilogies, but it definitely felt slightly inferior. This one confirms to me that there’s something special about the way Hobb uses first person in the Fitz books. It was also definitely the worst so far, although given the incredibly high standard that's not really saying much. Big picture first: it was definitely a great book. ![]() Unlike previous books, where my response has been something along the lines of “every single word is a work of genius and I have no idea how something this good is even possible”, I have some more mixed thoughts on this one. In my continued effort to make a post for every book (except for Fool’s Errand - whoops) I'm up to Dragon Keeper. The banner is an artwork by the great John Howe. The beautiful background depicting Buckkeep was done by PapayouFR on Deviantart. If this stack is the player's guild color, then the player must discard the next highest stack instead. Players stack their collected tiles by color, and at the end of the game, the topmost stack is removed. Each tile of this color gives them negative points. At the start of the game, each player receives a color that he keeps secret, this color corresponding to his guild of origin. Thus, each tile decision limits the choice of the next tile to be taken. Then the dragon is moved to the location of the tile that was just removed. The choice of tiles depends on the position of the dragon (because the tile must be in its line or in its column). Each turn, you take one tile for yourself and give another tile to another player. You are responsible for removing these adventurers from the dungeon. These tiles represent adventurers who want to steal the dragon's loot. In more detail, the game contains tiles of five different colors and different values. Once you have repelled the assaults, you give the dragon a portion of the adventurers you have captured as tribute. What if there was more than gold to protect? In the tile collection game Dragon Keeper: The Dungeon, you play as these guardians and must capture the adventurers who invade the dungeon rooms, but you must remain loyal to your guild by avoiding capturing its members. ![]() They protect it from repeated attacks by adventurers attracted by its fabulous treasure, buried in the basement of the castle. In those primeval times when men and dragons were enemies, ancient adventurers left their home guilds to serve a dragon. ![]()
